NDO/VNA – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh has sent a message of condolences to Pohang city in the Republic of Korea over the recent earthquake that caused serious human and property losses. The message was sent to the RoK Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-Wha. A 5.4-magnitude quake hit Pohang on November 15, injuring about 80 people and damaging at least 5,569 private and 582 public establishments, according to the RoK’s National Disaster and Safety Control.
She was addressing the opening of the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly’s general debate in Saint Petersburg, Russia, which was themed “Promoting cultural pluralism and peace through inter-faith and inter-ethnic dialogue”. The NA passed a Law on Belief and Religion in 2016, stipulating that everyone has the right to freedom of belief and religion, as well as the right to exercise religious practices and attend religious festivals. Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong sent a message to his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung expressing his sympathy over the loss of human lives and property damage caused by typhoon Kalmaegi last week. In his September 22 message, the Lao leader expressed his hope that residents' lives in the storm-affected areas would soon be stabilised. Typhoon Kalmaegi swept through several northern and central provinces of Vietnam on September 16, killing at least eleven. Vietnam shares the losses and pain of the Government and people of Ecuador from the recent earthquake which killed hundreds of people, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Le Hai Binh has said. "We hope Ecuador will overcome this difficult moment, stabilise the situation and continue to prosper", the spokesperson said on April 18.
